All of these are edible, I promise. Recently someone asked me what I've enjoyed about living in the Bay Area. My first response was how pretty it is. My next thought wasn't about the weather nor was it about living close to the ocean for the first time in my life, it was about finding amazing things at the grocery store.
I think it's time for a trip to The City.

I think I've got 2 out of 3, do I win? #2 is a Durian (right? it was either that or a jack fruit, but I am 99% sure it's a durian) But #3, that would be called Buddha's hand (or Buddha's fingers). We bought one once to show the fam...so sad, the thing had no fruit in it, just white rind straight through. Bummer.
I got it, Nat. It occupied mine and Ryan's time for about 10 min but #1 is Indian bitter melon or Hairy melon, #2 is durian (knew that from watching Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern) and #3 is Buddha's hand citron or Buddha's fingers citron.
I'll say it for you, I'm a flippin Rockstar!
Wow. It looks like Chelsea is the rockstar! Although Sarah was awfully close, so she can be the lead guitarist. :)
Yay! Thanks for finding those, that was fun.
In re: to the Chilton's -- I'm thinking Buddha's fingers would be good for a recipe that calls for a lot of lemon zest or for making candied lemon peels...
#1 - Long spiny thingy
#2 - Spiky ball thingy
#3 - Simpson dreadlocks
Did I get them right? :)
Yeah we were thinking about that to use the zest, but it was about $8 for that thing!
Wow. I can honestly say that I'd never seen or heard of any of those before now! Maybe I should expand my produce horizons... :)
OK I need some cool looking fruit LOL. I really need to go out there and check out the fruit they have.
Wow, you know you're not in Idaho anymore when you can pick up something called Buddha's fingers in the produce section.
Love the Berkley Bowl!
